Microsoft CRM & Twitter

Twitter is not the new kid on the block any more and has a user-base that is continually growing. It has taken its own direction with regard to social networking and it is a strategy that appears to be working.

Twitter has recently crossed the line from being a social network for students and the web savvy and has entered the mainstream, most importantly it has started to attract businesses. Google has its own feed, Dell has multiple Twitter feeds and smaller businesses are starting to utilise the marketing potential of Twitter.

This increase in business interest has certainly caught the eye of Microsoft, and they are now adding to Micorsoft CRM to include integration with Twitter. Twitter connecting with Facebook may have seemd obvious, but Twitter with CRM software?

CRM software is all about the customer, and if your customers are in the Twitter space, then it makes sense to be there too. Integrating with CRM makes sense, tracking conversations about your business, see who's talking about you (the good and the bad) and make it manageable from the same place as all of your other customer information.

An exciting addition to the Microsoft CRM development framework and one that may open up doors for integration with other social networks in the future.

Microsoft CRM - An Introduction

Microsoft CRM is Microsoft's Customer Relationship Management Solution. But what is one of those? In a nutshell, it's software that is used by companies the world over to mange everything to do with their customers. Pretty much anything that could possibly relate to a customer can be stored in the CRM system, some typical examples may include:
  • Name & Address (seems blatantly obvious, but it is extremely important that these details are kept up to date and accurate, especially for any marketing activity)
  • Purchase history
  • Log of issues they may have encountered
  • Special requirements they may have e.g. only deliver at weekends
The complexity of how deep a business uses CRM software depends on the business and the resources available to manage the data. CRM software can store customer information in a logical manner to suit any business model, but to be successful and improve customer relations it is a tool that should be utilised on a daily basis.
